A grateful Llanfairpwll father has thanked his surgeon for the ‘excellent’ care he received by raising £2,000 to buy a piece of vital medical equipment for Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.
Dylan Griffiths, 43, together with friend Stephen Hughes raised the money by organising a Sportsman’s Dinner at the Carreg Bran Hotel, which featured ex Liverpool Football Club legend Jan Molby, entertainment and a comedian.
The evening raised over £3,000, which was shared between Llanfairpwll Junior Football Club, a Neonatal Charity and Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Surgical Department .
Dylan, who works as a commentator for BBC Sport Wales, was inspired to fundraise after being impressed by the care delivered by Consultant Surgeon Nik Abdullah.
“I wanted to give something back to the hospital because the care I received from Mr Abdullah and all of the nursing staff was second to none” explained Dylan
The money, donated through North Wales NHS Charity Awyr Las has enabled the hospital’s Surgical Department to purchase a state of the art Electrocardiography (ECG) machine, which is already benefitting many patients , as Mr Abdullah explains:
“The ECG machine enables us to carry out the rapid investigations needed for Emergency patients”
“Without the fundraising efforts of people like Dylan, we just wouldn’t be able to fund such state of the art equipment.”
