Mike Peters In Charity ‘Big Busk’ for North Wales Cancer Services
Tuesday 8th December 2015

For the second year running, Welsh rock musician and cancer patient Mike Peters is set to perform a charity ‘Big Busk’ in North Wales’ three biggest hospitals.

Peters, from Dyserth, Denbighshire, will be joined by local musicians and school choirs, as well as patients and healthcare staff for ‘rock and roll’ Christmas carols at hospitals in Wrexham, Bodelwyddan, and Bangor.

Money raised during the all-day event will benefit the ‘By Your Side’ appeal which Mike is spearheading for the North Wales NHS Charity, Awyr Las.

Since being launched at the inaugural ‘Big Busk’ in November 2014, the appeal has raised over £176,000 for North Wales Cancer Services.

Mike said:

“The Big Busk represents a great opportunity for me to give something back to the wonderful North Wales NHS staff who have been by my side throughout my battle with cancer.”

“I’d love it if as many people as possible could join us in Wrexham Maelor Hospital from 9 -11 am, Glan Clwyd Hospital from 1 – 3pm, or Ysbyty Gwynedd from 5 – 7pm.”

After the final performances in Ysbyty Gwynedd, Dr Huw Parry from the Gwynedd Haematology & Cancer Relief Fund will present a cheque for £500,000 to Alaw Unit staff.

The significant donation will help fund a major expansion of the Unit, which is due to be completed next year and will see the Unit’s capacity increase by 40% to help accommodate an ever increasing number of patients. The donation comes fifteen years after the Gwynedd Haematology & Cancer Relief Fund raised the £1.2m needed to fund the construction of the original Alaw Unit.

Dr Huw Parry said:

“We are extremely grateful for the support and generosity of the local population who not only contributed all the funding to build the Alaw Unit in the first place but have also continued to raise money enabling us to make a further donation of £500,000 for the Alaw expansion project.”
