Dr Peter Higson, Chairman of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, has demonstrated his commitment to healthcare staff across the region by establishing an Annual Chair’s Donation through the NHS charity, Awyr Las.
This personal donation of £1,000 will this year be divided equally between the healthcare service areas chosen by the first male and first female runners across the finishing line at the Awyr Las 5km run on 6th September at Plas Newydd, Anglesey.
Dr Higson explains why he has chosen to set up this award now:
“This week we saw the launch of the Champions for Health scheme which aims to encourage healthcare staff in Wales to live healthily.
I have been very impressed by the Betsi Runaways, the running group set up by healthcare staff, and I want to encourage others to get involved in events and activities which promote healthy living.
Donations for extra equipment, facilities and special projects have a significant impact on patients and their families.
I want the Health Board to provide the very best services for patients across North Wales. I believe that having healthy, motivated staff is key to ensuring that we can deliver this.
This Annual Chair’s Donation will, I hope, help to show my appreciation of our dedicated NHS staff members and my determination to enhance the facilities and services we provide for communities across North Wales.”
Awyr Las 5km Run and 1 mile Family Fun Run Director and Betsi Runaways co-founder, Dr Chris Clark says:
“The Chair’s award will provide a huge incentive for runners and fundraisers, as the first across the line will have the chance to decide how the donation will benefit patients and their families in North Wales.
The ‘chip timed’ 5k is suitable for all types of runners ― serious enthusiasts and first timers ― and the 1 mile family fun run is suitable for all ages and abilities.“
