A Health Care Support Worker from Ysbyty Glan Clwyd is set to put himself through the pain barrier by attempting a sensational 8 hour skipping marathon for charity.
Dave Jones, who works on the hospital’s Children’s Ward, will attempt the challenge in aid of North Wales NHS Charity Awyr Las this June. All the money he raises will help fund improvements to areas of the ward which are reserved for teenagers.
“Donations to the Children’s Ward through our charity, Awyr Las, have helped to create a welcoming environment for young children to be treated, but there is a real need to improve the adolescent bays on the ward, which are drab and dreary.”
“I’d like to raise enough money to create a youth club theme throughout the designated adolescent areas on the ward, with inviting wall decor, comfortable seating areas and a games area with games boards, consoles and a computer.”
Dave will attempt to complete 32 x 15 minute skipping intervals, with 5 minutes rest between each interval. The challenge is even more remarkable considering Dave suffers from type 2 diabetes.
Children’s Ward Manager Cara Roberts said:
“We’re lucky to have such dedicated staff that are willing to go the extra mile for the young patients in our care. Donations through our charity, Awyr Las, help fund improvements to the ward which go above and beyond what the NHS can provide, and make a huge difference to the experience of our patients.”
