Help Support Local Cancer Patients This ‘JanuHairy’
Sunday 7th December 2014

Welsh Rocker and cancer patient Mike Peters Is encouraging people to support the By Your Side cancer care campaign he is spearheading by growing a beard this ‘JanuHairy’.

The Welsh rocker will be ditching the razor in the New Year and wants others to join him to help him raise money to enhance cancer services across North Wales.

The ‘By Your Side’ campaign, which is being run in conjunction with the North Wales NHS Charity, Awyr Las, aims to raise £351,120 over a 30 month period. The total represents a pound for every foot from Ysbyty Gwynedd to Glan Clwyd to WrexhamMaelorHospital.

In May 2017 Peters will walk this distance.

Peters said:

“JanuHairy is a fun way for people to get behind the By Your Side campaign and show their support for the 4,000+ people who are diagnosed with cancer in North Wales every year.”

“I’d love it if people can join me and help make a difference.”

A grand ‘shaving ceremony’ will take place during Peters’ ‘The Gathering’ concerts at Venue Cymru on the 30th & 31st January.  The annual event sees thousands of The Alarm fans flock to Llandudno for an all weekend celebration of Mike Peters and the Alarm’s music.

Peters was first diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1995, and after going into remission in 1996, he received the devastating news that his cancer had returned as Leukaemia in 2005. Since then, Peters has received regular treatment on the Alaw Unit in Ysbyty Gwynedd.

The Alarm frontman recently addressed the World Cancer Congress in Melbourne where he spoke about his cancer journey and the ‘wonderful’ treatment he’s received in North Wales hospitals.

Addressing the 7,000 Congress delegates, Peters said:

“I’ve performed with some of history’s greatest artists like Bob Dylan and Springsteen, but my biggest achievement is surviving cancer.”

“As a two-times cancer survivor, I owe everything to the healthcare staff here in North Wales who have provided me with fantastic care since I was first diagnosed with cancer nearly 20 years ago.”
